A couple of years ago, I decided to extend that to a full week. For me that is prime time for quilting! Woo Hoo!<br />
<br />
So the first thing I do is a "stay-cation" quilt. This year I only got the top done and here it is:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u-kIcCC3ogk/UySDWYnOBJI/AAAAAAAABxw/1UvZoXVyyH8/s1600/march+2014+012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u-kIcCC3ogk/UySDWYnOBJI/AAAAAAAABxw/1UvZoXVyyH8/s1600/march+2014+012.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I so miss having a place to hang my quilts to take pictures. The patterned fabric in the blocks is from a line from Moda that I found last year and have had just waiting for the perfect project. I have lots of fabric leftover so I think I will piece a back for it.<br />
<br />
I also did was a quick and easy pillow case. I was going through my stash and came across some fabric I got for my daughter a few years ago - only a yard but that's enough for a pillow case.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tEV7pesDCy4/UySD-mrX_AI/AAAAAAAABx8/-j7a9y3Ayo8/s1600/March+2014+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tEV7pesDCy4/UySD-mrX_AI/AAAAAAAABx8/-j7a9y3Ayo8/s1600/March+2014+006.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This one I actually had finished a day or two before vacation started. It's a swap quilt that I did with that fabulous group of QWHT ladies. I am so thrilled with it. Thanks Barb, Julie and Frances for playing with me. Our blocks all look fabulous together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7O2IZZmk7XQ/UySEIHy-h8I/AAAAAAAAByU/fthMyPZquX8/s1600/march+2014+009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7O2IZZmk7XQ/UySEIHy-h8I/AAAAAAAAByU/fthMyPZquX8/s1600/march+2014+009.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I had found the absolutely perfect fabric to back it! Is this not the perfect backing fabric for this quilt?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hk2dkRzJTQw/UySEMKRjxgI/AAAAAAAAByc/0isSk46poac/s1600/march+2014+010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Hk2dkRzJTQw/UySEMKRjxgI/AAAAAAAAByc/0isSk46poac/s1600/march+2014+010.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One of my goals for this year was a baby quilt to donate each month. I'm a bit behind but this is the first one:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W7hB--qfP8k/UySEBCa0ffI/AAAAAAAAByE/1hp1j9YDiZY/s1600/march+2014+007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W7hB--qfP8k/UySEBCa0ffI/AAAAAAAAByE/1hp1j9YDiZY/s1600/march+2014+007.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I also did some cleaning in the shed. And I found a couple of projects that I hadn't finished and decided to do something with them.<br />
<br />
This was the beginning of a Christmas quilt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kvnJe393c9Q/UySEFmU1auI/AAAAAAAAByM/7_Yn99F0lp8/s1600/march+2014+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kvnJe393c9Q/UySEFmU1auI/AAAAAAAAByM/7_Yn99F0lp8/s1600/march+2014+008.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I had intended to make it bigger but I couldn't get more of the red and nothing else seemed to work right so I made it into a wall hanging.<br />
<br />
I made curtains for the bathroom. I've been meaning to do this for a while but couldn't find just the right fabric. But I really like this fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KNtei61Q-6g/UySGggk-ciI/AAAAAAAABy4/MC8y6FDVZNY/s1600/march+2014+014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KNtei61Q-6g/UySGggk-ciI/AAAAAAAABy4/MC8y6FDVZNY/s1600/march+2014+014.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I deep cleaned the dining room. In doing that, I realized that the curtains over our sliding glass doors needed to be replaced. I only did a valance because we decided we liked having the extra light. It's hard to see - the fabric is a chocolate brown with a design in a deeper brown - it looks like tooled leather.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Mms9-bgEaf0/UySGdgSp9_I/AAAAAAAAByw/zpriFFg2-oY/s1600/march+2014+013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Mms9-bgEaf0/UySGdgSp9_I/AAAAAAAAByw/zpriFFg2-oY/s1600/march+2014+013.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
In cleaning the dining room I decided to make a table runner for the dining room table. It's become a dumping ground and I hate having things piled on it. I thought if I put a table runner on it, my family might stop piling things there (of course that didn't work lol). I had in mind to make one for every month of the year. I found some blocks in the shed that had been the beginnings of an Easter quilt. I pulled these three and made a runner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RLzPOtfKy9Y/UySEOhLlPkI/AAAAAAAAByk/g6dMY9fseag/s1600/march+2014+011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RLzPOtfKy9Y/UySEOhLlPkI/AAAAAAAAByk/g6dMY9fseag/s1600/march+2014+011.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />I also tried out a pattern for a Christmas ornament. I love the look and it worked up so quickly and easily. I'm sure I'll be doing more of these!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0mpQjHSaTgQ/UySGjN7JHnI/AAAAAAAABzA/e0DKxW82Qx0/s1600/march+2014+016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0mpQjHSaTgQ/UySGjN7JHnI/AAAAAAAABzA/e0DKxW82Qx0/s1600/march+2014+016.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It still needs a cord attached to it. The best thing is - it's reversible!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rzw5lHqOjZc/UySIhOEvmXI/AAAAAAAABzQ/Mpc9DzrAeLs/s1600/march+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Rzw5lHqOjZc/UySIhOEvmXI/AAAAAAAABzQ/Mpc9DzrAeLs/s1600/march+2014.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The only real difference is on the front you can see the folds.<br />
<br />
Oh and this is not from my vacation but it is from this year. It's last year's Christmas quilt. This time a wall hanging.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rbh6wz0StDc/UySJB32o3rI/AAAAAAAABzY/cKgv0tpa-K0/s1600/February+2014.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rbh6wz0StDc/UySJB32o3rI/AAAAAAAABzY/cKgv0tpa-K0/s1600/February+2014.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It's not completely ready. The bag is giving me fits. And I stopped messing with it. Being packed away for months isn't going to help any so I'll wait and fiddle with it in December when I hang it.<br />
<br />
I think the last thing I have to share is the bag I made at my quilt guild's February workshop. I love this bag! I have actually been using it as a shoe bag. I park a good bit away from my office so I wear my sneakers for the hike up to the building (I affectionately call where I park the "trolley parking" - as in, if you were at an amusement park and parked that far away, a trolley would come along and pick you up. lol). But I can't wear sneakers while I'm working so I carry my other shoes in this bag. It's just the perfect size. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ChiHQHQmfSw/UySJF327dyI/AAAAAAAABzg/CXUMySO2jAs/s1600/February+2014+009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ChiHQHQmfSw/UySJF327dyI/AAAAAAAABzg/CXUMySO2jAs/s1600/February+2014+009.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I guess that's all for now. Until next time, hugs and stitches. Jody<br />

I really need to carve out some more time to keep this blog updated. sigh.<br />
<br />
But today I am here to see how I did on my goals for 2013 and set my goals for 2014.<br />
<br />
2013 wasn't bad - I got everything on my list (and then some) done except for my Autumn Applique. I am still plugging along at it but it's a bittersweet bit of work. I used spray basting and it leaked all over the quilt. I don't know if I'll be able to get it out and the quilt looks horrible with all the spots - but I'm not willing to surrender. lol.<br />
<br />
So for 2014 I've made some really bold decisions regarding my quilting. I have a very short list and some very specific goals. Now let's see if I can stick to them. lol.<br />
<br />
My first goal is to make a flannel baby quilt every month to donate. I don't know where I'll donate them but there are so many worthy charities I'm sure I'll find something.<br />
<br />
Next goal is to finish up some tops. Of course the Autumn Applique tops the list but there are also:<br />
<br />
Tasha's Thanksgiving quilt (I gave her the top for Christmas)<br />
Rooster quilt<br />
Starflower quilt (this was made up of swap blocks)<br />
Christmas Sleigh wall hanging (that should have been done for Christmas this year sigh) <br />
<br />
Then the new projects:<br />
<br />
I've been working on the Henrietta Whiskers quilt for a month or so now. It's so cute and I've been planning to do it for a couple of years now and I think the time has come. It's a block of the month from Bunny Hill designs.<br />
<br />
The only other new project I definitely want to work on is a cornucopia quilt that is pictured on the cover of Jennifer Chiaverini's A Quilter's Holiday book.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6k-M5uqHceA/UsCg2SO2goI/AAAAAAAABww/vPJNzX_sdSE/s1600/QuiltersHoliday_cover-125x177.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6k-M5uqHceA/UsCg2SO2goI/AAAAAAAABww/vPJNzX_sdSE/s1600/QuiltersHoliday_cover-125x177.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I got the pattern right after the book came out and I think the time has come for this one too.<br />
<br />
I have a few other things if I find lots of extra time - not necessarily quilting - new curtains for the bathroom, dust covers for the triple crock pot & my new sewing machine. And we'd like to have a Christmas tree skirt and mantle cover for the fireplace.<br />
<br />
Oh and of course there are the guild projects. We're doing a pocket book workshop on a Saturday in February I believe and we're doing a Mary Poppins project bag in April or May - definitely plan to do those. <br />
<br />
So we'll see what kind of time I can manage to set aside in the new year for quilting activities.<br />
<br />
Until next time, hugs and stitches. JodyJodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-13195869491287148552013-09-02T13:46:00.001-04:002013-09-02T13:46:18.819-04:00A Cabinet FullJust a quick post - as there are no new accomplishments to show but, I forgot this picture last time I posted.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1KhkLrll8Yw/UiTNM-2kQgI/AAAAAAAABuM/hZMmol_1go8/s1600/august+2013+007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1KhkLrll8Yw/UiTNM-2kQgI/AAAAAAAABuM/hZMmol_1go8/s320/august+2013+007.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This cabinet is in my bedroom. It was my husband's grandmother's. It has housed numerous things since it came to live at our house but this is my favorite - my quilts. These are all quilts I made myself with the exception of two. The bottom one on the bottom shelf is the first round robin I did with the QWHT girls. And the bottom one on the second shelf is the love quilt the lovely ladies from that group made for me. There's a bit more room - and I do have more quilts I've made but these are more my "summery" ones. Maybe I'll have to redo this at Christmas time. hmmmmm.<br />
<br />
Oh and let me point out the very special quilt, second from the bottom on the bottom shelf - my Marilyn quilt. Marilyn was one of the ladies who made QWHT the family that it has become. She posted this quilt on our group and I fell in love with it and had to make one. There really didn't seem to a name more fitting for it than the Marilyn Quilt so that's what it became. We lost Marilyn a little over a year ago. She may be gone from this earth but she will live on in our hearts and our thoughts. Love you Marilyn. <br />
<br />
Until next time, hugs and stitches, Jody<br />
Jodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-91126968676975471412013-08-25T15:43:00.000-04:002013-08-25T15:43:09.152-04:00Finally.....some finishesEvery time I complete something, whether it's a top or an entire quilt, I update a log I keep. One night when updating that I had finished another top, I realized I had seven, SEVEN!! tops that needed quilted. So, I stopped piecing and started quilting.<br />
<br />
And here are the fruits of my labor:<br />
<br />
This one I have been working on for years - in different forms. I started with Civil War repros but I couldn't get the houses to line up properly - mainly the roofs. Then I started in blues - and had the same problem. sigh. This time I did browns and I appliqued the roofs rather than piecing them.<br />
<br />
But of course I ran into issues. sigh. The decorative stitch I was using to do the applique decided it wouldn't cooperate anymore. I only had seven blocks of the 12 I was planning to make. So the twin size quilt because a wall hanging and I added two log cabin blocks. I'm happy with how it turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_kYCeQBqoy8/UhpcUgc6nZI/AAAAAAAABsk/5dYY-ok8Ddk/s1600/august+2013+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_kYCeQBqoy8/UhpcUgc6nZI/AAAAAAAABsk/5dYY-ok8Ddk/s320/august+2013+001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
My quilt guild does two retreats every year. One year, a lot of the girls came home with scalloped edged quilts. Simple yet lovely quilts - some were novelty fabric in the center, some had panels. Then there were two borders with the final border being rather wide and then the WOW of the quilt - scalloped edges. I fell in love. So I made a couple. My "quilt hangers" were less than enthusiastic about helping so the quilts aren't exactly straight but I think you can still get the idea.<br />
<br />
This one I call On A Cold Winter's Day:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fZjRqjoXcCE/UhpcWNZqUqI/AAAAAAAABs0/4o5ZrJp1HAc/s1600/august+2013+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fZjRqjoXcCE/UhpcWNZqUqI/AAAAAAAABs0/4o5ZrJp1HAc/s320/august+2013+003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And this one is Snoopy's Fall Dance:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HNUBLZmQ-IE/UhpcX7z1PrI/AAAAAAAABtE/mcMYEvxa0-s/s1600/august+2013+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HNUBLZmQ-IE/UhpcX7z1PrI/AAAAAAAABtE/mcMYEvxa0-s/s320/august+2013+005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This next one I made with fabrics the kids got me for Mother's Day:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AN3agGYNerE/UhpcVWicwxI/AAAAAAAABss/JvZHCigfvNo/s1600/august+2013+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AN3agGYNerE/UhpcVWicwxI/AAAAAAAABss/JvZHCigfvNo/s320/august+2013+002.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
One of my friends posted a stunning block she found on someone's blog. I, of course, changed the colors and came up with this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qlgFCWUhTBw/UhpcW1Iqx0I/AAAAAAAABs8/Wu95x5w0XpM/s1600/august+2013+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qlgFCWUhTBw/UhpcW1Iqx0I/AAAAAAAABs8/Wu95x5w0XpM/s320/august+2013+004.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And the final finish was my round robin car cover, er, um, quilt that I made with the best quilting group on the web.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vk4eT9Kz0dM/UhpcYXzAjHI/AAAAAAAABtM/DWNmo9vbv1E/s1600/august+2013+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="317" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vk4eT9Kz0dM/UhpcYXzAjHI/AAAAAAAABtM/DWNmo9vbv1E/s320/august+2013+006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The Schoolhouse is hand quilted. The round robin is birthed and the other four were machine quilted.<br />
<br />
Feels good to finally finish up a few things. Now I only have one I'm quilting now, two on the to be quilted pile and three things I'm piecing. And of course the ideas, oh the ideas! lol.<br />
<br />
Until next time, Hugs and Stitches. Jody<br />

<br />
Today Tasha and I went to the Chambersburg quilt show. It's a rather small show - done in a church basement - no vendors, no admission price, no show pins :0( We do like our show pins. lol.<br />
<br />
But there were lots of cute quilts.<br />
<br />
This one is a 9/11 tribute. The lady who made it used her son's military uniform - her husband used to be a firefighter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This one uses handkerchiefs as the scarves:<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
These must have been a workshop because there were so many of them - I found it interesting that one of them said it was her "own original design" and the first thing she ever designed. I'm guessing she meant the placement because there were at least a half dozen similar.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WgXocQCnuf4/Ues7d5wrfEI/AAAAAAAABpY/nS6uQV2irgo/s1600/july+2013+032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WgXocQCnuf4/Ues7d5wrfEI/AAAAAAAABpY/nS6uQV2irgo/s320/july+2013+032.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The dresden plates are three dimensional and oh so cute.<br />
<br />
I absolutely love this one! There are such cute little buttons and embellishments on it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ujypL7EQgQs/Ues8EbaXCfI/AAAAAAAABqA/3ejuwfSYJ5w/s1600/july+2013+060.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ujypL7EQgQs/Ues8EbaXCfI/AAAAAAAABqA/3ejuwfSYJ5w/s320/july+2013+060.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A cute patriotic one:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bap_fg_7sFQ/Ues8HSZrhiI/AAAAAAAABqI/tqFwEUCzCSg/s1600/july+2013+055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bap_fg_7sFQ/Ues8HSZrhiI/AAAAAAAABqI/tqFwEUCzCSg/s320/july+2013+055.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This was my favorite one - this is the back - each square has a recipe on it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OJm1NMy4I6Y/Ues8K4CorRI/AAAAAAAABqQ/es0D-UUs20A/s1600/july+2013+028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OJm1NMy4I6Y/Ues8K4CorRI/AAAAAAAABqQ/es0D-UUs20A/s320/july+2013+028.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And this is the front - the recipes on the back go with the pictures on the front - there are things like chicken cacciatore, chicken caesar, etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qRuuCre0T1k/Ues8MgeSqoI/AAAAAAAABqY/y4xFhM5e1Lc/s1600/july+2013+022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qRuuCre0T1k/Ues8MgeSqoI/AAAAAAAABqY/y4xFhM5e1Lc/s320/july+2013+022.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This was a shop hop quilt. I like the unusual combination of colors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ab0TgY748Xw/Ues8R5zXOsI/AAAAAAAABqg/lV4Ekz1t_E4/s1600/july+2013+036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ab0TgY748Xw/Ues8R5zXOsI/AAAAAAAABqg/lV4Ekz1t_E4/s320/july+2013+036.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This one had some button embellishments too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q_4_abbLBK0/Ues8TvDjiII/AAAAAAAABqo/53VwKsDMzG4/s1600/july+2013+027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q_4_abbLBK0/Ues8TvDjiII/AAAAAAAABqo/53VwKsDMzG4/s320/july+2013+027.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So pretty:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bd03WNu9vHw/Ues8WTyk2VI/AAAAAAAABqw/kQI0DWk53GM/s1600/july+2013+024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bd03WNu9vHw/Ues8WTyk2VI/AAAAAAAABqw/kQI0DWk53GM/s320/july+2013+024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This one had a lot of embellishments too. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cMCUcdL_deY/Ues8g1GKuwI/AAAAAAAABrA/hfxknx0v8p0/s1600/july+2013+045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cMCUcdL_deY/Ues8g1GKuwI/AAAAAAAABrA/hfxknx0v8p0/s320/july+2013+045.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The animals on this are machine embroidered. I so would love to have an embroidery machine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I0tlYb26y7Y/Ues8lhXjfBI/AAAAAAAABrI/iUUXj-zHqD4/s1600/july+2013+052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I0tlYb26y7Y/Ues8lhXjfBI/AAAAAAAABrI/iUUXj-zHqD4/s320/july+2013+052.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I like this one mainly because of the quilting in the black squares. The maker of this quilt was either 16 or 18 years old.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NYvaGupZSZs/Ues8p-JIWXI/AAAAAAAABrQ/psgtbyEdzo0/s1600/july+2013+053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NYvaGupZSZs/Ues8p-JIWXI/AAAAAAAABrQ/psgtbyEdzo0/s320/july+2013+053.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
And here's the detail of one of the black squares with the quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o2q-yFp_MoQ/Ues8tkZV7rI/AAAAAAAABrY/YB61hBhDH68/s1600/july+2013+054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o2q-yFp_MoQ/Ues8tkZV7rI/AAAAAAAABrY/YB61hBhDH68/s320/july+2013+054.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a nice show. I'm thinking of maybe joining this guild in the fall. I've thought of it before but they meet on a Saturday - which was all but impossible for me when I was at WM. But now.....<br />
<br />
Until next time, hugs and stitches. <br /></div>
I can't believe how long it's been since I posted. I've been busy with work and life but I have accomplished some quilting things.<br />
<br />
I suppose the first things are the summer quilts I made for the kids for Christmas that I hadn't backed. I wanted to but sure they were big enough and I did have to add another border to Tim's - I'm going to have to make him walk around with a brick on his head to keep him from getting any taller. lol.<br />

<br />
I'm loving my quilt guild this year. Each board does things a bit differently and this year the board has set up wonderful programs with workshops and "make it take its". In January we made needle books.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tYcXeSEcNjg/UX0WxA_6H7I/AAAAAAAABnA/vRTeBCUctP4/s1600/April%252C+2013+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tYcXeSEcNjg/UX0WxA_6H7I/AAAAAAAABnA/vRTeBCUctP4/s320/April%252C+2013+001.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
In March we did a workshop. I just finished this one yesterday. I decided to use it as a lightweight covering so I didn't add batting and I backed it with flannel. I had the two patterned fabrics in the blocks for probably a year or more. I got them at our last quilt show and I only had a yard of each. Funny how a yard seems like a nice size piece of fabric - until you can't get more and you can't find anything that you want to make that only takes a yard. lol.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s8b3jkNLhaY/UX0X_sXwyyI/AAAAAAAABn4/Gcmc1HtNzmg/s1600/April%252C+2013+007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s8b3jkNLhaY/UX0X_sXwyyI/AAAAAAAABn4/Gcmc1HtNzmg/s320/April%252C+2013+007.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
In April we had a visit from a lady who talked about wool applique. I've never worked with wool before and technically I still haven't. We made our projects with felt. My camera doesn't do really well with small objects but you can get the gist of it - I made a pincushion.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wRW0nG6aYRU/UX0XIGf1OuI/AAAAAAAABnQ/elngNh9tvP8/s1600/April%252C+2013+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wRW0nG6aYRU/UX0XIGf1OuI/AAAAAAAABnQ/elngNh9tvP8/s320/April%252C+2013+002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
At the beginning of April hubby and I went to a wedding. I so seldom get dressed up that I was scrambling for something to wear. I found a skirt that I had gotten a couple of years ago that was a bluish turquoise. I added a white tank top and a little three quarter sleeve sweater that came with a dress I've had forever. I hunted for shoes and in the process of all the shopping and going through what I had it never dawned on me that I didn't have a small bag to carry. The wedding was at 2:00 about 45 minutes from our house so at 9:00 I started trying to figure out how to make something quick. This is what I ended up with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h5pvfZycfak/UX0XeBwHGQI/AAAAAAAABng/FOrHZ42wE80/s1600/April%252C+2013+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h5pvfZycfak/UX0XeBwHGQI/AAAAAAAABng/FOrHZ42wE80/s320/April%252C+2013+004.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The yellow matched the sweater I wore almost exactly. And there were little flowers and butterflies embroidered on the sweater in the same blues and pinks so it was perfect. And the following Monday when guild met and we made our pincushions, I carried my thread, needles, scissors, etc. in this bag.<br />
<br />
At the same quilt show where I picked up the fabric I used in the workshop quilt, I picked up a triple wrought iron quilt frame. I got a pattern for it and, as I so often do, when I got home I thought "why did I buy that pattern?". It's cute enough but I'll probably never make it. It's a sewing machine and notions. If I had a sewing room I could put it in there. But since I don't, and I have limited room to put something like that, I will probably do more seasonal things or just something pretty. When the lady came to speak on the wool applique she showed us an applique stitch that is beautiful, so easy to do and I really enjoyed doing it. So I pulled out the frame and some magazines and looked for inspiration. This is what I came up with. I did not find this exactly in a magazine. I found an applique border I like and pulled from that to make this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ao4-5Pi9z1U/UX0XTejAeOI/AAAAAAAABnY/qoMixbFunPE/s1600/April%252C+2013+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ao4-5Pi9z1U/UX0XTejAeOI/AAAAAAAABnY/qoMixbFunPE/s320/April%252C+2013+003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. I added a few buttons and beads to give it a little added interest.<br />
<br />
And speaking of buttons and beads, this year's challenge at quilt guild was to make something no smaller than 12x12, no larger than 24x24 and embellish it. You could use buttons, beads, yarn, ruching, dimensional fabric, yo-yos, ribbon, embroidery, applique, etc.<br />
<br />
I had so many ideas of what to do for this one but kept changing my mind. This is what I finally ended up with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M_tWu8EmdSc/UX0XpLCWR3I/AAAAAAAABno/WGwQ4ktf0XU/s1600/April%252C+2013+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M_tWu8EmdSc/UX0XpLCWR3I/AAAAAAAABno/WGwQ4ktf0XU/s320/April%252C+2013+005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have so many wonderful online friends and they find the most amazing projects and pass along pictures, links, etc. This sewing machine cover came through on FaceBook. It was a quick and easy project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1RT5BfkZBEE/UX0X0T0T7LI/AAAAAAAABnw/uWBTky1Rtto/s1600/April%252C+2013+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1RT5BfkZBEE/UX0X0T0T7LI/AAAAAAAABnw/uWBTky1Rtto/s320/April%252C+2013+006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Another thing that was passed along online - this one through my quilt group - is this beautiful starflower block<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v5GWmn-pKbQ/UX0YK_lJWRI/AAAAAAAABoA/XlzzeVs616I/s1600/April%252C+2013+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v5GWmn-pKbQ/UX0YK_lJWRI/AAAAAAAABoA/XlzzeVs616I/s320/April%252C+2013+008.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Obviously this one is still a work in progress. I'm going as scrappy as I can since I have such an aversion to scrappy. lol. I do love how they're turning out. I have ten blocks done and will probably do ten more.<br />
<br />
For an eye candy selection I have this to offer<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r-KyJIl_KNI/UX0dx-llwaI/AAAAAAAABog/uAMoPO8RO5w/s1600/March%252C+2013+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r-KyJIl_KNI/UX0dx-llwaI/AAAAAAAABog/uAMoPO8RO5w/s320/March%252C+2013+003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
My Great Aunt Mabel made this for Mom and Daddy when they got married more than 50 years ago. As far as I know, they never used it. I know I never saw it until the day my sister greeted me at their house with "I found it and I'm taking it" and showed it to me. Mom has been gone for almost 13 years and this was before she passed. I've only seen it once since then, folded across the bottom of my sister's bed. I really couldn't remember what it looked like. Last fall, I decided to get fabric to try to recreate it for myself. Since then I've been waiting for her to send me pictures of it. Finally when she was visiting Daddy last month she brought it along and I took pictures. I doubt I will try to recreate it because, quite frankly, I just don't like the fabrics. lol. But it was nice to get to see it and take pictures.<br />
<br />
And finally, the last thing I didn't do on my own. The QWHT online group that I am blessed to be a part of did a round robin last fall into this year. There were seven or eight of us and all the tops are simply gorgeous. This one is mine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xEG7fIq5bMg/UX0d-fZpbdI/AAAAAAAABoo/99zaTz6oFwE/s1600/March%252C+2013+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xEG7fIq5bMg/UX0d-fZpbdI/AAAAAAAABoo/99zaTz6oFwE/s320/March%252C+2013+006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm not sure what my plans are for this beast - it is huge. lol. And I wanted it large so I could wrap up in it - it's like getting a hug from all the ladies who worked on it. But I'm sure it will take me some time to get it quilted.<br />
<br />
Until next time (which hopefully won't be quite so far in the future), hugs and stitches, Jody<br />

But it is a finish none the less and I will celebrate.<br />
<br />
It's a Kindle cover. I was incredibly blessed this year when a good friend and her husband sent me a Kindle Fire as a gift. (Thanks G&K). I have been working on projects for other folks - the three summer quilts for the kids for Christmas (that still need backed!) and then two round robin rounds for the round robin swap I am in - so for my first "for me" project of the new year I made a cover for my Fire.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h2IuFg8aygE/UOmbKI1_QWI/AAAAAAAABmM/XQ4hNc0WAW0/s1600/January,+2013+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h2IuFg8aygE/UOmbKI1_QWI/AAAAAAAABmM/XQ4hNc0WAW0/s320/January,+2013+003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--6cDDE6y0KI/UOmbNZ-DtvI/AAAAAAAABmU/xX3T6Ymon8k/s1600/January,+2013+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--6cDDE6y0KI/UOmbNZ-DtvI/AAAAAAAABmU/xX3T6Ymon8k/s320/January,+2013+005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I love this fabric. If I remember correctly it is an Elm Creek Collection fabric. I only purchased a small amount of it - such a terrible thing for a non-scrappy lover like me. sigh. But it was more than enough for this lovely keeper and I will get to look at it every day.<br />
<br />
Until next time, hugs and stitches, Jody<br />
Jodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-13926393931658824362013-01-05T11:48:00.002-05:002013-01-05T11:48:48.288-05:00A New Year - New Goals - but what about last year?So here we are at the beginning of a new year. So that means new goals. But what about last year? Let's see how I did with last year's goals.<br />
<br />
I'm working on my Autumn Applique (hand quilting - this is going to take some time). The only other thing I didn't finish was my Carpenter's Star. I had planned to have this long armed - until I saw how much it would cost to do what I want done! Wow! I guess I'll need to come up with another plan for that one.<br />
<br />
So on to this year's goals.<br />
<br />
1. Rooster Roosting Robin<br />
2. School House<br />
3. Autumn Applique<br />
4. Kindle Cover<br />
5. Girl Scout Badges quilt<br />
6. Christmas scalloped border quilt<br />
7. Faith Tote (faith describing the fabric)<br />
8. Guild challenge block<br />
<br />
I think that's a respectible list. Keeping in mind that I am also involved in a round robin - oh, and I have three summer quilts I made the kids for Christmas that need backing. I suppose I should redo my list. lol.<br />
<br />
Until next time, hugs and stitches. JodyJodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-34556566354715338392012-10-14T12:07:00.000-04:002012-10-14T12:07:18.373-04:00Christmas is coming, right?And since it is, I can't show a lot of the work I'm doing. Between Christmas and the round robin my online quilt group is doing, there's not a lot I can show. But there are a couple things.<br />
<br />
I may have posted this block before, but this is the display for the October SBS.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qEBZqgn5h_A/UHrhK1HfxTI/AAAAAAAABjs/SdQcpIX1_Hg/s1600/October+2012+005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qEBZqgn5h_A/UHrhK1HfxTI/AAAAAAAABjs/SdQcpIX1_Hg/s320/October+2012+005.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I finished my Dolly Days wall hanging. When I first saw this pattern, I was in love. I knew I would only make a wall hanging because I wanted to embellish it and I didn't want to have to worry with washing all those little things on a quilt. So here it is with a couple of close ups of some of my favorite blocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cTiwCnYWXXY/UHrhj9p6CeI/AAAAAAAABj0/8Vm4hHrW8fI/s1600/October+2012+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cTiwCnYWXXY/UHrhj9p6CeI/AAAAAAAABj0/8Vm4hHrW8fI/s320/October+2012+002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is probably my favorite. I put a little handkerchief in the pocket and was lucky enough to find a yellow flower button that was just perfect for the fabric. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bJKOfk9uim4/UHrhl1alocI/AAAAAAAABj8/a1PXQO1Khb4/s1600/October+2012+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bJKOfk9uim4/UHrhl1alocI/AAAAAAAABj8/a1PXQO1Khb4/s320/October+2012+001.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MWednro_2LM/UHrhoF9noKI/AAAAAAAABkE/I2Ikutmy0EM/s1600/October+2012+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MWednro_2LM/UHrhoF9noKI/AAAAAAAABkE/I2Ikutmy0EM/s320/October+2012+003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I loved doing the beads on this to frame the flower like a cameo. And since pink and green are my favorites - it's just perfect.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O94iUZgvJo8/UHrhqTLKocI/AAAAAAAABkM/Lq0x8FiuO_4/s1600/October+2012+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O94iUZgvJo8/UHrhqTLKocI/AAAAAAAABkM/Lq0x8FiuO_4/s320/October+2012+004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And I loved using beads to look like buttons on this one too.<br />
<br />
And my next finish is this year's Christmas quilt. I used a pattern my quilt guild used last year to make lottery blocks for our Christmas party.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-796k2WE-ozE/UHriYZJRSfI/AAAAAAAABkU/pp0_WDzTE8E/s1600/October+2012+006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-796k2WE-ozE/UHriYZJRSfI/AAAAAAAABkU/pp0_WDzTE8E/s320/October+2012+006.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I wasn't finding a backing fabric I really liked so I decided to make a charm quilt with the leftovers from the blocks and use that for the backing. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8NdS4wyVkyE/UHriaZ4NjzI/AAAAAAAABkc/mjonO87f96I/s1600/October+2012+007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8NdS4wyVkyE/UHriaZ4NjzI/AAAAAAAABkc/mjonO87f96I/s320/October+2012+007.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I looked over my quilting goals for this year and I'm really doing a good job. There are a few things I know I won't get finished but on the whole, it's going well. So well in fact that I have started working on my goal list for next year.<br />
<br />
Until next time, hugs and stitches.<br />

Any time I had my two days off in a row I made sure one of those days was spent basically on quilting.<br />
<br />
So here are a few of the things I've accomplished lately.<br />
<br />
The first is a finish. This is a bow tie quilt that I still haven't named. I'm toying with Simple Romance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sfPLkhXsB8U/UDqevCKvfXI/AAAAAAAABgw/ET0zQl58t1w/s1600/August%2B2012%2B017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="301" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sfPLkhXsB8U/UDqevCKvfXI/AAAAAAAABgw/ET0zQl58t1w/s400/August%2B2012%2B017.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Next is the center block for the round robin for my online quilt group. I had posted a while back a picture of the fabrics I was going to use and you might notice this block doesn't use a single one of them. There will be more about that later.<br />
<br />
This is the block I'm sending on to my friend Joyce - hopefully this week:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pTQw7WG0HCw/UDqfKxHL_aI/AAAAAAAABg8/c3XMDSJRfIc/s1600/August%2B2012%2B019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="301" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pTQw7WG0HCw/UDqfKxHL_aI/AAAAAAAABg8/c3XMDSJRfIc/s400/August%2B2012%2B019.jpg" /></a></div><br />
And speaking of my friend Joyce.....This is my August SBS block. The delicious looking soda in front is the pin cushion Joyce sent me in our recent pin cushion swap.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Xg2IwZ7V-8g/UDqfnygpanI/AAAAAAAABhI/ZZQCE3owdj0/s1600/August%2B2012%2B018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="301" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Xg2IwZ7V-8g/UDqfnygpanI/AAAAAAAABhI/ZZQCE3owdj0/s400/August%2B2012%2B018.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I've been working on this year's Christmas quilt. Here are the first blocks:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GCBOtGsWe9U/UDqglPM4ozI/AAAAAAAABh4/JX99mkpXu4A/s1600/August%2B2012%2B030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="301" width="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GCBOtGsWe9U/UDqglPM4ozI/AAAAAAAABh4/JX99mkpXu4A/s400/August%2B2012%2B030.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hOuO_sGD-9c/UDqgjpIV7DI/AAAAAAAABhU/6nOfBxAQfws/s1600/August%2B2012%2B025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="301" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hOuO_sGD-9c/UDqgjpIV7DI/AAAAAAAABhU/6nOfBxAQfws/s400/August%2B2012%2B025.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dJ6FVj1pLd8/UDqgkFJ3OtI/AAAAAAAABhg/M5YbyDZQOsw/s1600/August%2B2012%2B026.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="301" width="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dJ6FVj1pLd8/UDqgkFJ3OtI/AAAAAAAABhg/M5YbyDZQOsw/s400/August%2B2012%2B026.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vjWQo9mKSpQ/UDqgkqzf00I/AAAAAAAABhs/YaX1egVonNg/s1600/August%2B2012%2B029.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="301" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vjWQo9mKSpQ/UDqgkqzf00I/AAAAAAAABhs/YaX1egVonNg/s400/August%2B2012%2B029.jpg" /></a></div><br />
And finally the story behind the post of my round robin fabric. I found something online I really, really liked. As I worked on the block I started to form ideas of what I would do next and what I would do after that - and after that. The ideas just came coming. I'll be honest - this is not the first time I have worked out a quilt on my own. But this is the first time it came to me so quickly and easily.<br />
<br />
So here is the center:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iBkMGdpAuIw/UDqhSOu1M9I/AAAAAAAABiE/Dhz-ImUDV7E/s1600/August%2B2012%2B021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="301" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iBkMGdpAuIw/UDqhSOu1M9I/AAAAAAAABiE/Dhz-ImUDV7E/s400/August%2B2012%2B021.jpg" /></a></div><br />
And then the next round:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--8B4vmEJwZw/UDqhZwQWpDI/AAAAAAAABiQ/EmTKwaLgAy8/s1600/August%2B2012%2B023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="301" width="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--8B4vmEJwZw/UDqhZwQWpDI/AAAAAAAABiQ/EmTKwaLgAy8/s400/August%2B2012%2B023.jpg" /></a></div><br />
And the last round that I have a picture of:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gRmFdwxy3NU/UDqhhOTqimI/AAAAAAAABic/5yaZ922qcrU/s1600/August%2B2012%2B024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="400" width="301" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gRmFdwxy3NU/UDqhhOTqimI/AAAAAAAABic/5yaZ922qcrU/s400/August%2B2012%2B024.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Now if you took notice I said the last round I have a picture of. I have two more rounds on it. The last round needs a bit of embroidery to complete it. I still have two more rounds to do but I'm getting close to getting it done.<br />
<br />
That's it for now. Until next time, hugs and stitches, JodyJodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-4076614294224797632012-07-28T19:02:00.000-04:002012-07-28T19:02:11.927-04:00Round Robin!!!!Now those are two fun words. Lol.
My online quilt group is doing a round robin. I've worked with these ladies before - I know I'm in for a lovely quilt.
So here's what I'll be using to begin my center:
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKEopiaGQvQ/UBRvNdqTY2I/AAAAAAAABgE/9Yyhs7LpReY/s1600/IMG_20120728_184644.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear:left; float:left;margin-right:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="300" width="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKEopiaGQvQ/UBRvNdqTY2I/AAAAAAAABgE/9Yyhs7LpReY/s400/IMG_20120728_184644.jpg" /></a></div>

A small package of beads - they will be for my Dolly Days quilt (that I actually started working on last night). A really cute triple frame and a pattern to use with it. My show pin of course. And something I'm really excited about - a flyer about a shop hop in Maryland and Northern Virginia. It's probably way out of my price range, but it's the first one I've heard about anywhere in this area so I'm going to check into it.<br /><br />Well since blogger and the computer aren't cooperating and there is thunder outside - I guess I better say<br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. When there is time and money, we make them for everyone in the family. This year, she made one (well, she's still working on hers) and I made one.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0-L6FeZYwgg/TyRFrO-2XhI/AAAAAAAABaU/wI8G55DMcf0/s1600/December%2B2011%2B017.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0-L6FeZYwgg/TyRFrO-2XhI/AAAAAAAABaU/wI8G55DMcf0/s400/December%2B2011%2B017.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5702759637216288274" /></a><br /><br />Now on to the quilt show. This weekend was the annual Mennonite Central Committee quilt auction preview. Lots of beautiful quilts but not lots of space. So a good portion of the quilts are folded and hung on racks - racks that are pretty close together, making it rather hard to get a good picture but I managed to get a few.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-73toypL9SXs/TyRHETOgjLI/AAAAAAAABbI/XfUxhDi639s/s1600/January%2B2012%2B016.jpg"><img style="display:block; This is a concept I have worked on more than once. Start with a schoolhouse block but instead of the house section with the windows, replace that with a traditional quilt block. I started it in Civil War repros, I started it in shades of blue. Neither time did I like how it turned out. But I am inspired to try again. I have a different idea of how to make it work and hopefully this will turn out as I want it to be.<br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. Mostly because working retail, December does not leave a lot of time for quilting. But also because what quilting I did have time to do was for Christmas presents. More specifically, Christmas presents for people who use my computer. lol.<br /><br />Every couple of years I make quilts for the kids. And based on a comment my oldest son made - he's been staying with us and when I asked him one night before bed if he needed an extra quilt he said something about being fine with the 37 or so quilts I've made for him - I kind of thought maybe I have made too many quilts for my darling children (if there actually is such a thing as "too many quilts" - and I personally am not sure there is).<br /><br />But my middle son asked for a quilt this year and then the youngest chimed in with a request of his own. There's apparently an issue with the fact that they are getting too tall for the previous quilts to cover their feet. What's a mom to do? Other than stop feeding them - I did suggest that to the youngest one. But he thought a new quilt was a better idea.<br /><br />So for my football fans. Joe got a Ravens' quilt:<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HYC1OhTWq5g/TxMzJGz-sNI/AAAAAAAABZY/Qgq6cRnTbTY/s1600/January%2B2012%2B002.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HYC1OhTWq5g/TxMzJGz-sNI/AAAAAAAABZY/Qgq6cRnTbTY/s400/January%2B2012%2B002.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697954185094279378" /></a><br /><br />Tim got an Eagles' quilt:<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkPxOU75Y-E/TxM0u4BDGlI/AAAAAAAABZk/ZJidRsAOR3Q/s1600/January%2B2012%2B003.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fkPxOU75Y-E/TxM0u4BDGlI/AAAAAAAABZk/ZJidRsAOR3Q/s400/January%2B2012%2B003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697955933469219410" /></a><br /><br />Tasha got a Transformer's fleece (which I did not take a picture of) and a Kindle cover:<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PV_ZSp9TyTw/TxM1JDfSxjI/AAAAAAAABZw/HN0uRL2c6Aw/s1600/402043_2757944464392_1131167398_33015620_1202823907_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PV_ZSp9TyTw/TxM1JDfSxjI/AAAAAAAABZw/HN0uRL2c6Aw/s400/402043_2757944464392_1131167398_33015620_1202823907_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697956383225464370" /></a><br /><br />She has abandoned her long love of purple and moved on to black and red. Snowmen are also favorites - so I was thrilled to find red and black fabric with snowmen on it.<br /><br />And don't you know that Christmas morning the oldest child (the one who would just use the 37 or so quilts I've already made him) asked why he didn't get a new quilt for Christmas? lol.<br /><br />On to 2012. The first finish of 2012 is a big one. It's big enough to cover my queen size bed - one of the few large quilts that I have completed. I hand quilted it - which is why it took over 2 years to finish. I even did a bit of decorative quilting - there are butterflies quilted on the borders. It was to be my first entry into a quilt show (my guild is having a show this spring). Alas I don't think it's to be. It has a couple of places that the border is a bit puckered. I'm happy with the results - for me - but not so much to put on display in a quilt show.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e38oZEHeAqY/TxM3ayAXQ3I/AAAAAAAABZ8/ztEAwFaI6p4/s1600/January%2B2012%2B004.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-e38oZEHeAqY/TxM3ayAXQ3I/AAAAAAAABZ8/ztEAwFaI6p4/s400/January%2B2012%2B004.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697958886793233266" /></a><br /><br />I have made a list of my quilting goals for 2012. Though the list is modest, the results (should I actually finish them) won't be as more than half the list are tops ready to be quilted and they will be mostly hand quilted.<br /><br />But the list will need to wait for another day. I am being kicked out of my own living room by the Ravens' fan. He wants to watch the play off game and just because they seem to lose whenever I'm in the room, he thinks that's my fault. Go figure. The issue is that I'm doing bigger things so it takes longer to reach that somewhat illusive goal of a completed project.<br /><br />However I have attained the prize!<br /><br />This quilt started with a pattern that completely intrigued me. My closest friends will tell you "Jody is not a "scrappy" lover". But the fact is, this scrappy pattern pulled at me. <br /><br />I thought of doing it as a Christmas quilt. There are a few kinds of scrappy I do like, mainly matching fabrics. For example, using red, white and blue fabrics only. Or using seasonal themed fabric. I could envision the quilt in Christmas fabrics. But I didn't have much Christmas fabric - trying to work from my stash. I did however have lots of Autumn fabrics. Autumn is my favorite season so I have many fabrics to work with that.<br /><br />Quite a few of these fabrics were in my stash basket in 6 inch charms. I'm sure these came from a swap with the lovely ladies over at QWHT. I love fabric I get in these swaps. They make every thing made from them feel like a hug from a dear friend.<br /><br />I debated how to quilt this. I so want to learn more machine quilting than what I do (which is basically straight lines). I decided to tie this one with buttons. It has 432 buttons on it. I'm thinking at some point I thought this might be the quickest way to get it all together. How wrong I was! <br /><br />But the work is well worth it. To answer the oft asked question "where were you when ......" - I was piecing this top when the earthquake hit the Washington, DC area this past August.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YxYgXQSQZcM/TrGLoGP4tcI/AAAAAAAABXU/tvDQ42hO7Mg/s1600/November%2B2011%2B003.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YxYgXQSQZcM/TrGLoGP4tcI/AAAAAAAABXU/tvDQ42hO7Mg/s400/November%2B2011%2B003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670466926824437186" /></a><br /><br />This next project is not finished. Every now and then the girls and I over at QWHT do a mystery quilt. The clues are all out and it's time to post my picture. <br /><br />Confession about this quilt. I had all the blocks made and laid out on my bed and decided I thought two of the fabrics would look better switched. So I pulled the blocks apart and remade them with the other fabrics. That is what this top is. And I have to say, I wish I had left it the way I had it the first time. The star pattern of the quilt fades the way I did it the second time. The star just really popped the way it was before. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dS9yBZKITrY/TrGOOSvHKNI/AAAAAAAABYQ/BsP87ap3Ha4/s1600/November%2B2011%2B005.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dS9yBZKITrY/TrGOOSvHKNI/AAAAAAAABYQ/BsP87ap3Ha4/s400/November%2B2011%2B005.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670469782034917586" /></a><br /><br />I also finished my October SBS block. I got the neatest little hanging rack for it. You can get some really cute toppers for the rack - hmmmmm, is that a Christmas idea taking form? lol.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7eyV7xMZb-Y/TrGNHC45ZCI/AAAAAAAABXs/waVOIiLR1nM/s1600/November%2B2011%2B001.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7eyV7xMZb-Y/TrGNHC45ZCI/AAAAAAAABXs/waVOIiLR1nM/s400/November%2B2011%2B001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670468558010278946" /></a><br /><br />Thunder hasn't made an appearance for a while but here's a new photo. I wonder if he's trying to tell me he's bored with this whole quilting thing?<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fV4pKW9Y41Q/TrGNpleodMI/AAAAAAAABX8/E3a8RQkI5rA/s1600/October%2B2011%2B025.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fV4pKW9Y41Q/TrGNpleodMI/AAAAAAAABX8/E3a8RQkI5rA/s400/October%2B2011%2B025.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5670469151410910402" /></a><br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches, JodyJodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-5558520374823583622011-09-20T15:24:00.006-04:002011-09-20T15:58:39.845-04:00I Can't BelieveIt's been so long since I've posted!<br /><br />I have accomplished a couple of small projects. I completed another two blocks of my SBS calendar blocks. Unfortunately I apparently haven't taken pictures of them. sigh.<br /><br />So we'll go with pictures of the tops I donated. Every once in a while I finally convince myself that I will never live long enough to quilt all the tops I have waiting. Rather than let them sit around, I try to find someone who will benefit from them.<br /><br />These tops have been sent to a wonderful charity called Margaret's Hope Chest. I found out about Margaret's Hope Chest through Jennifer Chiavernini's blog. Jennifer writes the incredible Elm Creek Quilts book series. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ISCrUS7N74g/TnjvGaZYjFI/AAAAAAAABWE/9eBKX_6z3b8/s1600/all%2Bstars%2B023.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ISCrUS7N74g/TnjvGaZYjFI/AAAAAAAABWE/9eBKX_6z3b8/s400/all%2Bstars%2B023.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654532225607699538" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zSnWB1DdO4I/TnjvGr-LvqI/AAAAAAAABWM/8IrNEvwFnvw/s1600/all%2Bstars%2B024.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zSnWB1DdO4I/TnjvGr-LvqI/AAAAAAAABWM/8IrNEvwFnvw/s400/all%2Bstars%2B024.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654532230325452450" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iKrxu6r7hDc/TnjuEl-WBnI/AAAAAAAABV0/BtUyAVWZkk8/s1600/all%2Bstars%2B021.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iKrxu6r7hDc/TnjuEl-WBnI/AAAAAAAABV0/BtUyAVWZkk8/s400/all%2Bstars%2B021.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654531094844147314" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h2eXe8WPZAU/TnjuEdjeL8I/AAAAAAAABVs/xNq1T4ykwps/s1600/all%2Bstars%2B020.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h2eXe8WPZAU/TnjuEdjeL8I/AAAAAAAABVs/xNq1T4ykwps/s400/all%2Bstars%2B020.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654531092583952322" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uDGc4Ipe5ZU/TnjuEJXIUdI/AAAAAAAABVk/7QYVpeQsGdM/s1600/all%2Bstars%2B019.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uDGc4Ipe5ZU/TnjuEJXIUdI/AAAAAAAABVk/7QYVpeQsGdM/s400/all%2Bstars%2B019.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654531087163478482" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4fPGo0mJaxo/TnjuE97OW-I/AAAAAAAABV8/em2aHpvQYjU/s1600/all%2Bstars%2B022.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4fPGo0mJaxo/TnjuE97OW-I/AAAAAAAABV8/em2aHpvQYjU/s400/all%2Bstars%2B022.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654531101273512930" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uPEoQpDLXuM/TnjsidDnoiI/AAAAAAAABVc/iWIhRht2d-Y/s1600/all%2Bstars%2B017.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uPEoQpDLXuM/TnjsidDnoiI/AAAAAAAABVc/iWIhRht2d-Y/s400/all%2Bstars%2B017.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654529408823173666" /></a><br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. It's terrible when your job, husband, kids, house, etc. intrude on your quilting time. sigh.<br /><br />The first update is the finished project from the Weird and Ugly challenge from my Yahoo group.<br /><br />Again, this was the fq I was sent to work with:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_jFwoDXGdjU/ThtdiPI0AGI/AAAAAAAABRQ/3w6BCsE8Z0Q/s1600/April%2B2011%2B069.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_jFwoDXGdjU/ThtdiPI0AGI/AAAAAAAABRQ/3w6BCsE8Z0Q/s400/April%2B2011%2B069.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628195002089996386" /></a><br /><br />And this is what I made:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bSn9wUj-69Y/ThtdsvvpF_I/AAAAAAAABRY/lCdXte1VBsc/s1600/June%252C%2B2011%2B035.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bSn9wUj-69Y/ThtdsvvpF_I/AAAAAAAABRY/lCdXte1VBsc/s400/June%252C%2B2011%2B035.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628195182641485810" /></a><br /><br />I had visions of a stained glass window. It was certainly interesting. I don't like to work with small pieces and the little squares finished at 1 inch and have four triangles in them. I'm happy with how it looks and am thinking it may be the center of something larger - but I'm not sure what the "something" will become.<br /><br />I also did a few small things lately. A friend passed along a link for a bookkeeper - perfect for holding a Kindle. And since I have a Kindle, I had to make one.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i3vbeHnFLpA/ThteMfo1kWI/AAAAAAAABRg/bPL506nbjT4/s1600/July%252C%2B2011%2B032.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-i3vbeHnFLpA/ThteMfo1kWI/AAAAAAAABRg/bPL506nbjT4/s400/July%252C%2B2011%2B032.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628195728073789794" /></a><br /><br />The original had some applique but I decided to just embellish mine with a few buttons.<br /><br />The pattern is a Moda BakeShop freebie that can be found <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/05/bookkeeper.html">here</a><br /><br />Last year for my birthday I got some embroidered Sunbonnet Sue blocks off eBay. There's one for each month. I didn't really have an idea what I was going to do with them but they were too cute to pass up. Finally I decided to do a small wallhanging. I'd like to get a table top scroll stand to hang them from. I finished February and March. I added a bit of seed beads to each.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nkMRsxB2lTM/ThtfMbUNQ1I/AAAAAAAABRw/3QyhZ_0LNyU/s1600/July%252C%2B2011%2B034.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nkMRsxB2lTM/ThtfMbUNQ1I/AAAAAAAABRw/3QyhZ_0LNyU/s400/July%252C%2B2011%2B034.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628196826425148242" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9Mt_wiJJ_Z4/ThtfM8Wt03I/AAAAAAAABR4/bnRgKDlni6Q/s1600/July%252C%2B2011%2B035.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9Mt_wiJJ_Z4/ThtfM8Wt03I/AAAAAAAABR4/bnRgKDlni6Q/s400/July%252C%2B2011%2B035.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628196835294040946" /></a><br /><br />The February one has hearts quilted into the corners. I can't wait to work on the other twelve months.<br /><br />It feels good to finally finish something.<br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. I had a terrible time figuring out what to do with them. For one thing, I don't think the colors the lady who made them used all worked well together - but I wanted to use all the blocks together.<br /><br />Finally I gave up on trying to find a block to center them in and decided the best way to go would be a simple sashing with a fabric that would work with all the different colors and not detract from the beauty of the embroidery.<br /><br />And this is what I came up with:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f_4VAQs65MM/TbnZIbKYS1I/AAAAAAAABPk/bg2z_DyIRD0/s1600/April%2B2011%2B130.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f_4VAQs65MM/TbnZIbKYS1I/AAAAAAAABPk/bg2z_DyIRD0/s400/April%2B2011%2B130.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600746350365395794" /></a><br /><br />In the past year or so, a number of ladies in my quilting guild made lovely bags called Mini Bow Tucks bags. I have made a few bags and decided I would give this one a try too. Of course, being me, I couldn't make it exactly as the pattern called for - the straps were much too short for me. And that really sounds funny because I'm a short girl. But I like my bag to fall about my hip level.<br /><br />I finished it up today and I'm very pleased with how it turned out:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hseEq9dBPus/TbnZrmpOhPI/AAAAAAAABPs/Qo19Z7MDj5Q/s1600/April%2B2011%2B132.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hseEq9dBPus/TbnZrmpOhPI/AAAAAAAABPs/Qo19Z7MDj5Q/s400/April%2B2011%2B132.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600746954742990066" /></a><br /><br />I've mentioned before the wonderful Yahoo group I am a part of. This year the two lovely ladies who run the group have come up with some interesting challenges for us. I posted about the first quarter's challenge - a UFO challenge. <br /><br />The challenge we are doing right now is called the Weird and Ugly Challenge. Everyone participating received a piece of quite interesting fabric. We have until June 30 to come up with a project. There will be voting so I won't be posting my finished project here until probably mid July but to whet your appetite - here's a view of the fabric we have to work with:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RgeKi6QmifQ/TbnejrV8drI/AAAAAAAABP8/6g2ljntklwo/s1600/April%2B2011%2B069.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RgeKi6QmifQ/TbnejrV8drI/AAAAAAAABP8/6g2ljntklwo/s400/April%2B2011%2B069.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600752316123477682" /></a><br /><br />I have an idea and have even started working on it. So check back in a bit and see what I came up with.<br /><br />And of course before I go, Thunder wants to show off his Easter basket, um, bone.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P1NOyEFTG3o/TbnZ8RRrYJI/AAAAAAAABP0/pehMZAmgGvk/s1600/April%2B2011%2B080.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P1NOyEFTG3o/TbnZ8RRrYJI/AAAAAAAABP0/pehMZAmgGvk/s400/April%2B2011%2B080.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600747241064849554" /></a><br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. But I had three tops that were done and ready to be sandwiched and quilted and I managed to get two done.<br /><br />This is the second quilt that I made for my granddaughter to use at our house.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NNCWqNk8hrc/TX0dW-qLizI/AAAAAAAABOE/pmW-T3wrbnw/s1600/march%2B2011%2B020.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NNCWqNk8hrc/TX0dW-qLizI/AAAAAAAABOE/pmW-T3wrbnw/s400/march%2B2011%2B020.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583651393623526194" /></a><br /><br />I have mentioned the wonderful Yahoo group I am part of. At the beginning of the year, we started a UFO challenge. I picked three things I thought I could reasonably expect to get done by the end of March. This is the third project so I got them all finished. <br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C63MucXvgdk/TX0dffL9SuI/AAAAAAAABOM/siTsKp6kPtQ/s1600/march%2B2011.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-C63MucXvgdk/TX0dffL9SuI/AAAAAAAABOM/siTsKp6kPtQ/s400/march%2B2011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583651539794086626" /></a><br /><br />It was nice to have a little gentle push to get me going on finishing up these projects.<br /><br />And speaking of the wonderful Yahoo group I am part of, it has long been our practice to make love quilts for members who get a new home or who are going through a challenging stage in life. This week I became the latest recipient of a love quilt. Done in my favorite colors of pink and green, this is the beautiful quilt they sent me:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jmtKKV6gIFY/TX0dvqAM1ZI/AAAAAAAABOU/NkqMX8v-xoM/s1600/my%2Bquilt.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jmtKKV6gIFY/TX0dvqAM1ZI/AAAAAAAABOU/NkqMX8v-xoM/s400/my%2Bquilt.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583651817575470482" /></a><br /><br />And that's a perfect place to leave things. <br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches.<br /><br />JodyJodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-23414009529673120592011-01-30T16:40:00.012-05:002011-01-30T17:19:11.488-05:00Quilt Show!Two of the most exciting words in the world. lol. The last week of January each year the local MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) hosts the quilts for the years annual relief sale. The quilts are auctioned in April and the proceeds are used to help folks over seas. So Tasha and I braved the bad weather and went up to the show.<br /><br />The first couple of years I went they just displayed the quilts. The last two years they have had a Quilter's Attic and voting for Viewer's Choice.<br /><br />The problem they have is a small building - meaning most of the quilts are folded and hanging over rails. You can't look at the entire quilt and taking pictures is rather difficult - the racks they use are pretty close together. But I did manage to get a few pictures. <br /><br />I was surprised by the number of quilts that had a large portion of embroidery or cross stitch as a main component. Here are a few:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe6qmDRQI/AAAAAAAABLA/bhECNr_6HAU/s1600/January%2B2011%2B045.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe6qmDRQI/AAAAAAAABLA/bhECNr_6HAU/s400/January%2B2011%2B045.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568101613761152258" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe6S_WVsI/AAAAAAAABK4/f_88kpx4bZQ/s1600/January%2B2011%2B039.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe6S_WVsI/AAAAAAAABK4/f_88kpx4bZQ/s400/January%2B2011%2B039.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568101607424808642" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe6MukHoI/AAAAAAAABKw/XPB2eUwWezE/s1600/January%2B2011%2B037.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe6MukHoI/AAAAAAAABKw/XPB2eUwWezE/s400/January%2B2011%2B037.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568101605743795842" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe50XuWgI/AAAAAAAABKo/LZT7BrQFfso/s1600/January%2B2011%2B034.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe50XuWgI/AAAAAAAABKo/LZT7BrQFfso/s400/January%2B2011%2B034.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568101599205546498" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe5iUdYlI/AAAAAAAABKg/kvWI4dnrxJA/s1600/January%2B2011%2B033.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXe5iUdYlI/AAAAAAAABKg/kvWI4dnrxJA/s400/January%2B2011%2B033.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568101594360013394" /></a><br /><br />Each group was asked to make a quilt representing peace and this was their offering:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXfNqFv0QI/AAAAAAAABLI/O4rI85FvsV8/s1600/January%2B2011%2B051.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXfNqFv0QI/AAAAAAAABLI/O4rI85FvsV8/s400/January%2B2011%2B051.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568101940043174146" /></a><br /><br />This was my first runner up pick for viewer's choice:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXfcrzhfXI/AAAAAAAABLQ/a0ZCh7RZ-ow/s1600/January%2B2011%2B043.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TUXfcrzhfXI/AAAAAAAABLQ/a0ZCh7RZ-ow/s400/January%2B2011%2B043.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568102198201646450" /></a><br /><br />I so love Sunbonnet Sue quilts and an Amish SBS? We have been overly blessed with babies in the past year. <br /><br />This one is such a labor of love though. I have made a number of quilts for my new grand-daughter. But they are all quilts her parents have. I wanted to have at least two quilts here at our house for her too. <br /><br />When my Yahoo group presented the UFO Challenge I knew immediately that Shianne's quilt for here must be on the list. I had the first top ready and it just needed sandwiched and quilted. So on a rare two days in a row off work, I sandwiched it one day and quilted it the next.<br /><br />This truly a quilt made by Shianne's Grammy - it's pink and green. lol.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TTypI57OLAI/AAAAAAAABKA/nVPj1WRfoKQ/s1600/January%2B2011%2B021.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TTypI57OLAI/AAAAAAAABKA/nVPj1WRfoKQ/s400/January%2B2011%2B021.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565509209976351746" /></a><br /><br />It still needs all the little strings snipped - I really hate doing that. sigh.<br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. JodyJodyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00655385696313563961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5223887695742657642.post-11598621265521817902011-01-13T18:44:00.006-05:002011-01-13T18:53:08.655-05:00The first finish of 2011I got something finished today! Because I'm supposed to be working on my UFO Challenge - I'm finding all these other things I want to do. lol.<br /><br />I finished my bag. First I have to thank my darling husband. Two days before Christmas we were having the yearly discussion of do we get each other something or not. I ended up saying that I wanted to make a new bag and some cash to get fabric, etc. would be great. So that's what he did. And here's what I made:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS-OvZdp1dI/AAAAAAAABJo/aRwrtD_-tjk/s1600/January%2B2011%2B008.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS-OvZdp1dI/AAAAAAAABJo/aRwrtD_-tjk/s400/January%2B2011%2B008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561821009766110674" /></a><br /><br />I did the front pocket on this one and decided to add a little bead embellishment. <br /><br />And I did a bit of experimenting with the inside. I put a small pocket on one side and did a "divider" on the other side. It's called a divider but I think it works more like a big open pocket. I might adjust that a bit if I do another one.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS-PLTeZFmI/AAAAAAAABJw/ZLYtmnpSuGM/s1600/January%2B2011%2B009.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS-PLTeZFmI/AAAAAAAABJw/ZLYtmnpSuGM/s400/January%2B2011%2B009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561821489194931810" /></a><br /><br />One of the things on my "to do" list is a second quilt for our grand-daughter to use while she's here. So last night I was looking for a pattern - the first one I made for her is a patch quilt - I wanted to do something different for this one. I didn't find a pattern for her quilt but I did come across a pattern I had looked at this past Christmas. <br /><br />I really don't care for scrappy quilts. Too busy for me. But every once in a while there's a scrappy pattern that I decide to try. I wanted to try this one for Christmas but I didn't have enough fabric (or time). But looking at it last night I realized how nice it would look for an Autumn quilt - and fall fabrics I have in abundance. lol.<br /><br />So here's the pattern, fabric choices and a few completed blocks:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS-QHjmdevI/AAAAAAAABJ4/gYfUmMhgejI/s1600/January%2B2011%2B010.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS-QHjmdevI/AAAAAAAABJ4/gYfUmMhgejI/s400/January%2B2011%2B010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561822524315892466" /></a><br /><br />I'll probably try to do a few blocks each day until I get this one done.<br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. I have picked three that I think I can reasonably expect to complete by the end of March.<br /><br />This top is ready to be sandwiched and quilted. It will be a quilt for my Grand-Daughter to use while she is at our house.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS4CnnjJs6I/AAAAAAAABJQ/TzwVJAq5bbY/s1600/January%2B2011%2B005.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS4CnnjJs6I/AAAAAAAABJQ/TzwVJAq5bbY/s400/January%2B2011%2B005.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561385469503714210" /></a><br /><br />This top is ready to be sandwiched and quilted also. It will be for our niece Kathlene's daughter Makensie, due in May.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS4CvyuemxI/AAAAAAAABJY/4sNL1Scuudg/s1600/January%2B2011%2B006.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS4CvyuemxI/AAAAAAAABJY/4sNL1Scuudg/s400/January%2B2011%2B006.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561385609942965010" /></a><br /><br />And this quilt that I started last December. It will be a lap quilt so I think I can get it finished in time.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS4C5GsIU_I/AAAAAAAABJg/DeSjhDPwP-w/s1600/January%2B2011%2B007.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TS4C5GsIU_I/AAAAAAAABJg/DeSjhDPwP-w/s400/January%2B2011%2B007.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561385769920648178" /></a><br /><br />I'm also working on my design for a table runner for on my treadle sewing machine.<br /><br />I'm really trying to finish up some things and not add too many to my "have to do" list. <br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches. We provided a quilt for Fisher's House to raffle off. I mentioned Fisher House in a past post but if you haven't heard of them, they are sort of Ronald McDonald Houses for the military. Places where family of injured military personnel can stay for free while their loved ones are hospitalized. The latest Fisher House to be dedicated was for the family of service members who have been killed in action. Frank said they sold 2100 tickets - most at 6 for $5 - so he figured they raised about $1,800. The quilt was won by a minister within our community.<br /><br />Then we moved on to food! Most people's favorite part of any party. lol. It was a potluck and there were so many yummy items to choose from.<br /><br />After that we had a brief business meeting - picked out the pattern for our raffle quilt for our next quilt show - Spring of 2012.<br /><br />Then we moved on to the ornament exchange. This is the first year I've done the exchange - last year I had the flu and missed the party. I was a bit nervous because while I am a "comfortable" quilter (I'm a bit above novice but still have lots to learn) there are some ladies in my guild who make over the top gorgeous quilts and I was worried if my ornament would be good enough.<br /><br />So here is my ornament:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TQjmJYrn7GI/AAAAAAAABIM/m7pm5xmh8mE/s1600/more%2BDecember%2B2010%2B035.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 301px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TQjmJYrn7GI/AAAAAAAABIM/m7pm5xmh8mE/s400/more%2BDecember%2B2010%2B035.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5550939589652769890" /></a><br /><br />It is not woven - some of the ladies saw it from a distance and thought it was. It's pieced with teeny tiny pieces. I don't think I'll be doing that again! Not that it was terribly hard, I just don't think I'd want to do it too often.<br /><br />The way we exchanged ornaments was really cute. All were in plain brown paper bags and under a Christmas tree. Each of us picked a bag and then we stood in a circle. One lady who did not participate stood in the center. She asked questions - is your tree up and decorated? If so, you moved to the center of the circle and exchanged bags with someone else in the center. We did a few questions and mixed in there were times of pass your bag three times to the right, pass your bag five times to the left, etc. At the end each lady took out her ornament and showed it and said who made it.<br /><br />There were a variety of methods used - cross stitch (a beautiful church in the trees), felted wool (a little elf), a snowman head made of a plain ornament with facial features drawn on and a hat added, embroidery. One lady brought in an ornament she had received in a similar exchange 27 years ago!<br /><br />This is what I received:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TQjnWgB63UI/AAAAAAAABIU/GBeUy0Nx0Qo/s1600/more%2BDecember%2B2010%2B036.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_bzhV911aNWA/TQjnWgB63UI/AAAAAAAABIU/GBeUy0Nx0Qo/s400/more%2BDecember%2B2010%2B036.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5550940914475261250" /></a><br /><br />It's not technically an ornament but it's very lovely - and filled with candy. I have been so good with no candy lately - these will go to the kids.<br /><br />I've been making plans for the New Year. This can be rather dangerous. Last year I planned to make at least two quilts for my queen-size bed and I ended up needing to make almost a dozen baby quilts.<br /><br />Next year I am hoping to make some quilts for our family. One for my bed - I'm doing the Project 360 BOM found <a href="http://www.projecthouse360.com/bom.html">here</a>.<br /><br />For over our fireplace, I'm hoping to do the Applewood Farms BOM series from this past year. You can still get these patterns for a small fee - info is <a href="http://applewd.com/BOM/page1.html">here</a>.<br /><br />I do have a few UFOs I'd like to get finished. I have a Double Irish Chain and a fall applique top that need quilted. And I have a few blocks from some fabric I fell in love with and searched high and low for the perfect pattern for.<br /><br />That should be enough to keep me busy for a while - at least until the 2011 BOMs start popping up all over the internet. lol.<br /><br />Until next time, hugs and stitches.
